GTA 6 preload date: when downloads begin on PS5 and Xbox

GTA VI preloading begins November 12, 2026, according to Rockstar. Here is how the timing works for digital preorders and boxed download codes on PS5 and Xbox.

Grand Theft Auto VI arrives November 19, but you can download it earlier. Rockstar has confirmed a preload date for digital buyers and people redeeming the code in a physical box.

When does GTA 6 preload begin?

GTA VI preloading begins at midnight local time on November 12, 2026, according to Rockstar Games support. That gives players a week before the announced November 19 launch to download the game.

Rockstar lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as the launch platforms. It has not provided a download size in the support article, so check your console’s available storage before preload begins.

Digital and physical preorders

Digital preorders of either the Standard or Ultimate Edition can begin preloading on November 12. Rockstar says the physical version is a box with a digital download code, not a disc. Retailers are expected to make those boxes available for pickup or shipping starting November 12; redeem the code to preload.

A retailer’s delivery time may determine when a physical buyer actually receives a code. The preload start date does not guarantee your box will arrive that day.

What to check before launch

Confirm the game is tied to the PlayStation or Xbox account you plan to use.
Leave free storage space and keep automatic updates enabled.
If you buy a code, check that its region matches your platform account. Rockstar warns that mismatched regions may cause activation problems.

Preloading downloads the game ahead of release; it does not mean the game is playable on November 12. Rockstar’s announced release date remains November 19, 2026.
